SkinMedica's Age Defense Retinol Complex .25 is formulated to renew the skin's tone and texture without irritating the skin. Retinol helps combat the signs of premature aging while magnolia bark extract soothes inflammation. Ideal for use twice a week to build tolerance to formula.

Apply in the evening after cleansing and toning and before applying your moisturizer. If a retinol product has never been used before, begin twice a week 2-3 days apart, gradually increasing frequency to every other night, and then advancing to each evening or as tolerated. Apply to the entire face. Avoid getting in eyes. If contact occurs, rinse eyes thoroughly with water.
Caution: Do not use if you are pregnant, lactating or planning to become pregnant. Mild redness, peeling and irritation are expected when using this product. Use daily sun protection with SPF 30 or higher and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week following discontinuation.

I Like It, It's Approved!
This has been pretty gentle and I like it enough that I am ordering the 0.5% formula now. I tried a different brand's 0.25% formula and my face didn't agree with it very much... often had a burning sensation but it hasn't happened with this one. Been using the SkinMedica every day for over a month. It comes in a glass bottle with a screw off pump top. So I like that it stays closed to help keep it fresh, but that when it gets down to the bottom, I can open it to try and use it up.

Great Starting Retinol
When I first started using retinol, I started with this .25 one. It was great, I could tell it was keeping my skin "glowy", but wasn't too harsh for my sensitive skin. I have recently started using the .5 one and my skin felt well prepped for the increase in strength since I started with this one. I would recommend this brand retinol to anyone. Although it is a little price, this is truly a product that I would have to agree with the statement of "you get what you pay for".

A great retinol for a beginner
I have sensitive skin and have tried retinol and its prescription sister in the past with irritating results. I was very skeptical about trying again, but Age Defense Retinol .25 has been kind to my skin. I always make sure that my skin is dry before applying. And, I always put my TNS serum on first. Then, after several minutes, I apply the retinol. I began with twice a week for two months and also added moisturizer after retinol, and am now at three times per week without the nightly moisturizer on retinol nights. The other nights I use a nightly moisturizer. At three times weekly, I do experience flakiness. I realize that it can take twice as long for retinol products to work compared to prescription products. However, my forehead milia are slowly beginning to clear up after almost a lifetime of those pesky bumps. I like the .25 because it is so mild. My hope is to one day graduate to .5 retinol.

This retinol is light enough for me to use nightly without any irritation. Absorbs quickly as well. I do use the 1.0 a couple of times a month to enhance cell turnover but typically the 1.0 results in flakey skin. I have been using this product for over a year.
